Individual therapy for adults

Relational & Experiential
Psychotherapy

Because you deserve to be deeply held and understood, not just heard.

Does this sound like you?

You're exhausted.

Not the kind of tired a good night's sleep fixes but the kind that comes from years of holding your life together so well that nobody around you has any idea what it's actually costing you.

You're the reliable one, the competent one, the one people assume is fine. Underneath that? Stress and anxiety are running the show. That's not a character flaw. That's a nervous system that learned a long time ago it had to earn its safety through performing or holding everything together.

My work as a therapist is to support you in feeling safe enough to actually feel all you're experiencing under the mask. We'll go at the pace your body can handle, not the pace your inner critic thinks you should already be at.

And I can promise you this: whatever's underneath all that performing isn't too much, too messy, or too late to work with.

I'd be honored to work with you and support you. Reach out below to set up a free 30 minute consultation call to see if we are a good fit.

About me

Hi, I'm Abby.

Hi, I'm Abby. I work with people through relational and experiential psychotherapy to support them as they find confidence and clarity and develop compassion to move forward from their most loving self.

I have been a clinical social worker for over 15 years, and it is an honor to do this meaningful work. Regardless of what you're facing, I believe you deserve to be deeply held and understood, not just heard, and together we'll go into the darker, harder places of your life — and the joyful ones, too.

I don't have the answers for you, but I'll help you find them within yourself. I see myself less as a guide and more as a companion — someone who has walked these paths many times, in my own life and alongside the people I've had the privilege of working with. I’ve been a client in therapy for over 20 years. These experiences shape how I show up with you, because I know what it's like to sit in the seat of the client not just the therapist. I bring humor and irreverance into the room, along with a lot of care.

I believe the relationship between us is what's actually healing — the vessel that carries us through hard waters. The tools and clinical training matter, but they're secondary. I'm an expert relationship-builder first and a student of your nervous system second, and I'll stay right there with you while you feel what you feel, so you don't have to carry it alone.

How I can help

What I offer.

Individual psychotherapy

EMDR · AEDP · Queer-Affirming

Deeply relational, trauma-informed care for adults in Colorado, using EMDR and AEDP to reach what talking alone can't. Many of the people drawn to this work are self-aware and have tried other forms of therapy, but they're looking for something deeper.

Consultation for therapists

Consultation on EMDR, practice development, tough cases, and building a relational, queer-affirming practice, drawn from over 15 years as a clinical social worker. I provide a space to grow, not just problem-solve.

Events & trainings

Offering workshops on topics like relational, intersectional approaches to psychotherapy and trauma-informed end-of-life care, for groups who want to go deeper together. Interested in hiring me to facilitate? Reach out.

End of life care

As a death doula and grief worker, I support people across the entire living-to-dying spectrum. From early conversations about end-of-life wishes, through care during active dying, to grief support for loved ones. Learn more at Longmont Care Circle (opens in a new tab).

FAQ

Common questions.

Abby Howard Counseling's office, a cozy seating area with art, plants, and a couch
Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, I use the HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform called SimplePractice. It is easy to use and works on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Where are in-person sessions located?

I have an office located in Longmont, CO. Please note my office is located in a historic building that does not have an elevator.

What is the fee?

I am considered private pay and am not in-network with any insurance providers. My fee is $215 for a 50-minute session. I encourage you to call your insurance company and ask if they provide coverage for out-of-network behavioral health (CPT Code 90837). I can provide you with the documentation you'll need to submit your claims (this will require a diagnosis from the DSM-V). Please note that if you receive Medicaid I cannot provide services to you as you are required to work with an in-network provider. I ask that you keep a credit or debit card on file through Simple Practice and you will be billed following your session.

Do you provide a Good Faith Estimate?

Yes. You always have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency item or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

Abby Howard Counseling will discuss your fee for services with you in the initial consult and you will also be provided this information in writing through the Mandate Disclosure form.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises (opens in a new tab) or call the Colorado Division of Insurance at 303-894-7490 or 1-800-930-3745.

Do you offer an initial consultation?

Yes, a free 30-minute consultation is provided to all potential clients. During this call I will spend time getting to know you more, share more about how I work with folks, and we can determine if it feels like a good fit. A consultation call does not guarantee we will work together and if either of us feel we are not a good fit I will provide you with referrals.

What is your cancellation policy?

You must cancel or reschedule 48 hours in advance of the session. Not doing so will result in being charged the full fee. The only exception is the case of documented emergencies. Being sick is unfortunately not an emergency and I do charge for these late cancellations. This is a sustainability practice as a small business owner.

How often will we meet?

I ask that we meet at least twice a month. In my experience, that consistency is what makes the deep relational work possible.
